Sentencing for two cousins convicted this month in the death of a teen-age runaway from Palm Desert has been postponed today until June 30, a defense attorney said.
But relatives of the murder victim Tory Bowser are expected to make their "victim impact statements" Tuesday at Imperial County Superior Court in El Centro, said defense attorney Mark Sullivan, who represents co-defendant Floyd Lavander. The two defendants were initially set for sentencing June 2.
Lavander and Michael Gaines were convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the drowning death of 13-year-old Bowser, whose nude body was found in August 2003 in a canal north of Holtville. They both face a term of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole.
